The story behind Wejdene’s banger “Anissa”

Wejdene is probably the hottest new artist in France right now.
Her song “Anissa” is really on pace to become the country’s biggest summer hit of the year.

The song first wet viral on TikTok, before being released on Youtube.

The buzz all started from a challenge launched in April, during the lockdown, as she explained in an interview with the newspaper Le Parisien.

“I launched a challenge, but the viewers didn’t imitate me, they did their own thing while singing the lyrics with a choregraphy. As a result it was shared 100 000 times”.

People are even calling her the new Aya Nakamura, to which she replied : “they’re comparing me to her song Djadja. But I didn’t get my inspiration from it. I’m happy to be compared to Aya, she’s an example of success. But in this song, I’m talking about my story”.

And like most of the recent French urban-pop bangers, the song is based on a true story.

About the girl called “Anissa” she said : “she’s my real cousin. I don’t talk to her anymore, since I found out that my ex-boyfriend cheated on me with her. I don’t know if she heard the song. But if she did it’s even better”.

Acording to her these last two weeks have been crazy, people now recognize her in the street and she can no longer go out alone.
She also said that now everyone is calling her “Anissa” 😂🤦🏽‍♀️. They understood nothing 🤦🏽‍♀️.
